Gabriel Robella and the Afro House Renaissance:
From Uruguay to Global Dancefloors
Afro House isn’t just trending, it’s thriving. And at the heart of this rhythmic resurgence stands Gabriel Robella, a seasoned producer and DJ whose roots in Tribal House have evolved into a signature sound that’s both timeless and forward-thinking.
With past collaborations alongside legends like Giorgio Moroder, Eddie Amador, Cevin Fisher, and Billboard-charting artists such as Cybersutra and Tiff Lacey, Robella’s name carries weight across continents and genres. But he’s not resting on legacy, he’s building new ones.

New Releases, New Energy
Robella’s latest chapter is marked by an exclusive 10-track deal with Batuque Music, a powerhouse label in the Afro House scene. The first three singles “You Can Trust Me,” “Stay Around,” and the more commercial yet captivating “Tonight” are set to drop before year’s end, promising to ignite dancefloors and playlists alike.
And that’s just the beginning. His upcoming release “Go Back” on Café de Anatolia (November 27) and the club-favorite “Chase the Sun” via KONTOR Records are already stirring buzz among DJs and fans. Robella’s sound is unmistakable: tribal roots, melodic finesse, and a pulse that moves bodies and souls.

Interview: Inside the Mind of Gabriel Robella
Why Afro House?
“For me, it feels like home. Growing up in Uruguay, I was surrounded by candombe rhythms, Afro-Uruguayan percussion that echoes through the streets. That groove is in my DNA. I remember banging on school desks to the beat of whatever song was in my head. Percussion speaks to me.”
When did you shift from DJ to producer?
“Music runs in my family, my dad was a guitarist, my grandfather a saxophonist. I’ve always been drawn to electronic sounds, which led me to DJing at school parties. Eventually, I wanted to create my own tracks, so I bought a computer and my first pro synth: the Alesis Quadrasynth Plus Piano, lol. That was the spark.”
How has music production changed over time?
“Back then, if you didn’t own a good synth or sampler, it was tough to get quality sounds. Today, with VSTs, virtual synths, and a solid DAW, it’s much easier. But the essence remains: create, imagine, and express.”
Who influenced your sound?
“Oh wow—so many. Chus & Ceballos, Gabriel & Dresden, Satoshi Tomiie, John Creamer & K, Danny Tenaglia… the list goes on. I admire diverse styles, which sometimes makes production tricky. I might start with a Deadmau5-style melody, layer it with Roger Sanchez grooves, and add Chus & Ceballos percussion, haha a weird mix. Then I realize I’ve drifted and need to rebuild from scratch. It’s part of the creative chaos!”
What defines your upcoming tracks?
“They lean underground, but I still weave in melodies. I want to evoke emotion. Pure instrumental tracks can get lost in the flood of releases, so I collaborate with vocalists to make them memorable. These new tracks blend old-school underground vibes with refined vocals and melodic touches for a richer experience.”
What can we expect from your DJ sets?
“Versatility. I’ve been a resident at various clubs, often warming up for artists in different genres like Techno. So I adapt. But when I’m invited to events, I bring my Afro House arsenal—originals, remixes, and unreleased gems you won’t find anywhere else. I aim to take the crowd on a sonic journey they’ll remember. Music is emotion, and I love transmitting that energy.”
