Meet Nashon Ash, a junior at the Falk School of Social Work, majoring in Social Work and pursuing his passion for music alongside his studies. With a schedule that would make most people dizzy, Ash is a true embodiment of a busy student, juggling school, work, and involvement in seven different school organizations.
Ash’s love for music began at a young age, ignited by his participation in church and his early exposure to various instruments. From playing the trombone, violin, and a little piano, to his longest-standing passion, the drums, Ash’s musical talent knows no bounds.
“I always had something for music since I was young,” says Ash, reflecting on his lifelong connection to the art form.
As he progressed through middle school and high school, Ash found himself drawn more to the beats and compositions of music rather than the lyrics. This fascination with the rhythmic elements of music led him to explore music production during his sophomore year of high school. Starting with making beats on his phone for fun, Ash soon upgraded to an old used laptop and began honing his skills using software like Garage Band and Logic Pro, learning through practice and YouTube tutorials.
Now, as a college student, Ash dedicates his time to producing music whenever he can. While music remains his biggest hobby, his ultimate goal is to turn it into a full-fledged career. To achieve this, Ash has sought opportunities to expand his network and gain exposure in the music industry. The Blackstone LaunchPad at Syracuse University Libraries, located in Bird Library, has been instrumental in connecting Ash with industry professionals and helping him make the most of his opportunities.
But Ash’s ambitions don’t stop there. He understands the importance of continually expanding his knowledge and connections within the music industry. While he already knows a lot of artists, he is aware that there are countless more talented individuals out there waiting to be discovered.
Driven by his passion and determination, Ash is focused on building a successful career in music, connecting with new clients, and establishing a consistent income stream through his art. With his unwavering dedication and the support of the Blackstone LaunchPad, Nashon Ash is poised to make waves in the music industry and leave an indelible mark on the world of music.
