Emerging from the vibrant streets of Baltimore, Maryland, Jonathan Harris—professionally known as Big Jon—is carving out a powerful space for himself in the modern hip-hop landscape. With a story rooted in resilience, passion, and authenticity, Big Jon represents a new generation of artists determined to restore depth, storytelling, and emotional connection to the genre.

Big Jon’s musical journey began early. Growing up in Baltimore, he was immersed in the golden sounds of hip-hop legends such as Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Lauryn Hill, Ludacris, will.i.am, and 50 Cent. Their influence ignited his love for music at just 12 years old, inspiring him to begin writing his own rap lyrics by the age of 16. What started as a creative outlet quickly evolved into a calling.

In his early days, Big Jon honed his craft by writing over instrumentals from contemporary stars like Drake, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne. His natural ability to command attention became evident through performances at school events and church gatherings, where audiences connected deeply with his energy, lyrical ability, and stage presence. His roots in music extended beyond rap—Big Jon was also actively involved in his church choir, even taking on leadership roles during performances, further strengthening his vocal versatility.

Despite his passion, Big Jon took a brief detour to pursue higher education, earning a degree in Media Production from Towson University with an impressive 3.5 GPA in 2019. He initially ventured into broadcasting, aiming to build a career behind the scenes. However, after several years of feeling unfulfilled, he made a bold and defining decision—to return to music.

The summer of 2024 marked a turning point. Big Jon reignited his artistic journey and began working on his debut EP, “HERE I COME.” Released on January 1, 2025, the six-track project—featuring Rise Again, Sponsor, Spirits, Powers, No More, and Don’t Judge Me—showcased his lyrical depth, emotional honesty, and commitment to authentic storytelling. Recorded primarily at SongBuilder Studios in Baltimore, with Powers produced in New York City, the EP signaled the arrival of a serious artist with a clear vision.

Driven by a desire to bring substance back to hip-hop, Big Jon distinguishes himself through his focus on lyricism, flow, and meaningful narratives. For him, music is not just about commercial success—it is about artistry, connection, and legacy.

That legacy is deeply personal. Following the heartbreaking loss of his mother in 2021 to pancreatic cancer, Big Jon found renewed purpose in his music, dedicating his journey to making her proud. This emotional foundation fuels his determination and adds a powerful layer of authenticity to his work.

Throughout 2025, Big Jon steadily built momentum. From performing at open mic venues across Baltimore to appearing on podcasts, securing media coverage, and being featured on Chicago’s Internet radio station 77.3, he began establishing his presence in the industry. He expanded his discography with singles like Level Up, recorded in New York City, and Persona, released on December 24, 2025. His bold and unapologetic side emerged with Don’t Mess With The Flock, a diss track addressing the struggles of the Baltimore Ravens, demonstrating his willingness to tackle unconventional themes.

Big Jon carried this momentum into 2026 with the release of Cosmos on March 6 and continued work on his upcoming single Reload, recorded at Ice Cream Sound Recording Studios in Los Angeles. Each release reflects his growth, ambition, and refusal to be confined by expectations.

Beyond music, Big Jon is actively working to elevate his career to new heights. With aspirations to tour nationwide and collaborate with global stars such as Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, Megan Thee Stallion, Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Imagine Dragons, he envisions creating music that resonates on a global scale.

However, his journey has not been without further hardship. In late 2025, Big Jon experienced another profound loss with the passing of his grandmother at the age of 89. Her influence and support had always been a cornerstone of his life. In her memory, he made a promise—to succeed, to persevere, and to honor both her legacy and his mother’s through his music.

Today, Big Jon stands as a testament to resilience and purpose. With unwavering determination, a growing catalog of music, and a story that resonates deeply, he continues to push forward—undaunted by challenges and driven by a mission greater than himself.

As his journey unfolds, one thing is certain: Big Jon is not just making music—he is building a legacy.
